Cecile Lartigau is a singular musician, internationally established as an ondes Martenot player. She is fascinated by the John Cage’s philosophy which opens a way toward an emancipation of the performer. That creates her triple vocation as performer, improviser and musicologist, three activities that merge into a single desire for creation. This desire drives her to collaborate with the most creative artists such as Teodor Currentzis, Romeo Castellucci, Heiner Goebbels.
Her great commitment to making known a wider ondes repertoire has led Cecile to develop her career as a recitalist and a chamber musician, performing works by Bussotti, Parmegiani, Murail, Cage, Ballif, Leroux, Messiaen in particular. In 2018, she rediscovered and performed the Poème symphonique of Dimitrios Levidis, the first work for onde and orchestra, composed in 1928; she is also involved in premiering new written music.
Since 2018, Cecile has been touring, as an improviser, in Everything that happened and would happen, the last music theatre production of Goebbels. She is a member of two improvised experimental music quintets : The Mayfield, the band of Goebbels, and Poulp', a quintet with electric guitar, Cristal Baschet, percussions, voice and ondes Martenot. She is currently creating her first scenic performance with music, dance and video projection on Candide ou l'Optimisme of the French philosopher Voltaire.
Firstly a violinist, Cecile is then awarded a master's degree in ondes Martenot and a second in musicology from the Conservatoires Nationaux Supérieurs de Paris and Lyon. As a musicologist, she has studied indeterminacy in the music of John Cage. Thanks to her extensive skills and her rigour, she affirms a powerful and recognizable artistic identity.
Her numerous activities have pushed her performing all over Europe (France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Austria, Slovenia...) as well as USA, Russia and Colombia with leading conductors as Teodor Currentzis, Kazushi Ono, Christoph Maria Wagner and Michael Wendeberg. She performed with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra (Turangalîla), MusicAeterna, Opera of Lyon Orchestra, E-Mex Ensemble (Bussotti, Pièces de Chair II), Le Balcon. She has taken part of famous festivals as Salzburg Festspiele, Lucerne Festival, Festival Messiaen, RuhrTriennale, Diaghilev Festival, Transeuropa among others.
In 2022, Cecile makes her debuts with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and pianists Yuja Wang and Bertrand Chamayou, performing the Turangalîla under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen at Salzburg, Lucerne and Hamburg Elbphilharmonie.
